While fracking done in the proper locations and done according to stringent safety precautions may (just may) be safe, there is no reason, historically, to think that oil and gas companies will not frack wherever they see a chance of profit and will shortchange or try to remove safe and environmentally sound practices whenever they can, especially if it conflicts with making a buck. That is the problem.
