Google Adwords Conversion Tracking Setup Shopify Tutorial 2018/2019

One of the most important things to be able to do as a business owner is to be able to track your conversions from your advertising, but unfortunately this isn’t so easy sometimes. That’s why as a freelancer it’s important to know how to set this up, it will allow you to give specifics of how well your ads are performing and give you the ability to provide proper insight to your client.

Another great reason to know how to set this up is you can install the google chrome extension “google tag manager” to see if stores have any google tags installed on their site. If you notice they don’t, you can always reach out to the store through email and offer to set up their conversion tracking and analytics for free (it really only takes 5 mins) and this might be a good way to make a great first impression and potentially land you some work in the future.

Follow these simple steps in order to set up your Google Adwords Conversion Tracking:

Step 1: Log into your google Adwords and click the wrench Icon in the top bar menu

Step 2: A drop down menu will come up, click on conversions

Step 3: You will be directed to the conversion page, click on the big blue plus sign

Step 4: Pick which kind of conversion you want to track, for most cases it’s website conversion

Step 5: Set up your tracking code the way that best fits your conversion and hit create conversion when finished, this is how I set mine up

Step 6: Select install tag yourself

Step 7: Copy this script into a notepad document or a word document on your computer

Step 8: Copy this script and paste it below the script you just pasted into the word document

Step 9: Make these changes to the bottom half of your script

Step 10: Go into shopify and hit setting (gear icon bottom left of screen) and select checkout

Step 11: Scroll down to “additional scripts” and paste the script you made above into that section
