I was fortunate enough to be at a Seattle home game a couple of years ago (against the Brewers, which they lost) the night Griffey was inducted into the Mariners Hall of Fame, and even from my lonely seat in the highest part of the center field bleachers, it was an amazing experience. Edgar Martinez was there, Randy Johnson was there. But nothing topped when KG Jr walked out into the infield. I had a terrible crick in my neck turning around to look at the jumbotron, but it was worth it. For me, Griffey was baseball growing up. When Griffey came around, no one else mattered, and like you I wasn’t really a Mariners fan. He did have the perfect swing. He played the game well and honored it.
