Although chess was once considered a bad game that encourages people to gamble, today it is recognized by the International Olympic Committee as a sport. And there is a campaign which is trying to include this game into the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Whether it’s a sport or a game, chess is timeless. With so many benefits, chess becomes highly competitive as people get older. Even amateurs can compete in various competitions in the world, and you can also professionally play chess. Traditionally, players from the Russian Federation are considered the most successful chess players.

Risk

Another very famous classic board game.

This is a strategy classic board game, that can be played from 2 up to 6 players. The standard version of Risk is played on board — the map of Europe, which is divided into 42 territories, grouped in 6 continents. Players control their armies and try to capture territories of their enemies — other players. The result is determined by rolling the dice. The interesting part is, that players can form alliances during the game, and that can change game-winner. The main goal is to win every territory on the board. We must say that this game is not so easy, as it can last from a few hours to a couple of days. Prepare a good strategy!

The origin of Risk dates back to 1957, when Albert Lamorisse, a French filmmaker, invented the game. Simple rules, multiplayer strategies and conquest of the territory today are great fun for the whole family. Today, you have numerous versions of this game, with new maps, even a video version of this game.

Connect Four

Maybe you actually heard about this game under the names: Captain’s Mistress, Four Up, Plot Four, Find Four, Four in a Row, Four in a Line, Drop Four, and Gravitrips (in the Soviet Union). If you still have not heard, we will present you this game in a nutshell. This is a two-player connection game, where the players have to pick a color and then take turns and drop one colored disc from the top into a seven-column, six-row vertically suspended grid. While the pieces are falling straight down occupying the lowest available space in the column. The aim of this game is to become the first who will form the horizontal, vertical and diagonal line of four of one’s own discs. Connect Four was invented and sold first in February 1974, under Connect Four trademark by Milton Bradley. Maybe you didn’t know, Milton Bradley designed a famous game called Switch.

Scrabble

Scrabble word finder is also one of the most popular classic board games. For those who do not like math, chess, and war strategy, this game is perfect.

It’s ideal for 2–4 players, where they’re trying to score points by placing puzzles with a single letter onto a board divided into squares. The letters must form meaningful words in columns — from left to right in rows or downward. The game contains very simple rules, and it is difficult to compose the word from the offered order of letters.

This game is suitable for all players, so younger and older can improve their vocabulary, while having fun! Scrabble does have its own dictionary that you have to use, and it’s sold separately. This is what keeps the game fair, but you can also use any other dictionary if your friends agree with that. Younger generations must have heard of Pictionary. This is a very popular classic board game today at parties.

This game is great for teens and adults, and there is no limit to the players. The optimum number is about 12 players divided into pairs. It’s a very simple game and brings lots of laugh and fun. You have a board, cards, a die, a pencil, and paper. Lay down the board, put cards in the center and you’re ready to play!

Since you decided the pairs, it’s time to decide who in each team will be the picture — the person who will draw the picture and the game begins with rolling the die. The team with the highest roll pick the card. The first round means All play category and involves everyone. Then the picture has a few seconds before sketching the picture. All players then are trying to guess and the team that guesses first, win the round and roll the die. After that, the pictures are switching over and a new card is drawn. The category that they have to draw depends on the square that they have landed and for every correct answer they roll the die. The first team that reaches to finish the square is a winner.
