TRULY NOBLE PRINCIPLES ENCOURAGED BY SCOUTING

Scouting is a very great experience that can stay with a person for their whole lifetime. The principles are beautiful, and I really enjoyed how some were pointed out during this article as it help show how these principles are really looked upon fondly and actively. I often like to include scouting when I include my history as a citizen as the United States of America: I was a cub scout, a boy scout, a US Marine and a volunteer police officer and for years I kept the Scouting principles along side the principles of Benjamin Franklin along side the Marine Corps leadership traits and principles, etc.

SCOUTING ON A NATURE-PATH FILLED WITH RELIGIOUS BRIARS

One thing I did not hear mentioned at the “Duty to God & Country Pavilion” was an atheist, secular humanist or Universal Unitarians booth. There was some talk of being proud of Scouting inclusiveness in the article, but this inclusion occurred after much fighting against those with religious worldviews. This is due to the religious characteristic of holding back progress, development or accomplishment by some who are dogmatically convinced they know what is true based upon faith, or belief without evidence. Scouting has farther to go along the path of noble-inclusiveness.

SOME MINOR PROGRESS, BUT SCOUTING LACKS SOME BRAVERY

There seems to be some small degree of progress based upon an article by Humanist.com titled “What Does the Boy Scouts-Unitarian Universalists Agreement Mean for Humanists?” dated 19 April 2016, but it does not sound like Scouting is taking the opportunity to bravely embrace a chance to initiate, on their own, another positive leap forward within the inclusiveness realm. Some comments of the cited article also indicated those with the religious worldview actually have taken the opportunity to exclude some previously included UU scouts instead. This infection of some bad principles of religion is similar to what has happened with government as epitomized by Trump and the infection of fundamentalist Christian religion in the Republican party (that also bleeds into the Democrats, aka, Conservatism-light). The moral arc of Scouting-principles are destined to bend towards the inclusiveness of secular worldviews, but not without fighting against some bad principles found within religion that often holds back progress.
