Soar On Wings Like Eagles

The misconception of amibiton and Christianinty

My biggest misconception to Christianity was that if I became a ‘Christian’, then I’d miss out on the ‘joy in life’ and would lose my ambition to be tremendously successful. I thought big dreams and good times would be replaced with sacrificing life’s adventures and ambitions.

I couldn’t have been more wrong. In fact, the exact opposite is true.

Over the past 8 months, I’ve learned that the story of God is the most creative, ambitious, adventurous, miraculous story ever told. I’ve learned that ambition is threaded into Christianity and that you’re actually obligated to have extraordinary ambition as a Christian.

“but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” — Isaiah 40:31

I don’t know about you, but soaring on wings like eagles doesn’t sound too boring or unadventurous. To run in life and not ‘grow weary’ sounds a lot like having relentless ambition. To me, this verse screams excellence, perseverance, courage, and strength. It’s the antithesis of boring, mediocre, and weak.

Instead of giving examples from history, let’s stay relevant and look at 3 strong Christians who I think everyone can relate with:

Scott Harrison is the founder and CEO of charity:water — a disruptive non-profit with ‘ambition’ to end the global water crisis. Their mission is to bring clean water to nearly 1 billion people. I repeat, their mission is to bring clean water to nearly 1 billion people. You want to know the ‘crazy’ thing? They absolutely believe it’s possible (so do I). You could argue that Scott has the most ambitious mission on this planet.

Russel Wilson is the underdog turned all-pro quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks. In his rookie year, he out-hustled, out-smarted, and out-ambitoned the competition to lead his team to the NFC Championship. This didn’t happen because he prayed, it happened because the qualities of being a follower of Christ are the same intangibles it takes to be an elite NFL quarterback. Russel has earned league-wide respect and is one of the best young leaders in professional sports.

Eric Thomas just might be the best motivator in the world right now. Anyone that’s heard Eric speak would agree— watch this video and you’ll see. He went from being homeless to now a world-class motivational speaker. As a minister, one of his go-to phrases is that he’s ‘allergic to average.’

The last example is my testimony. Again, I thought if I gave my life to Christ then I might sacrifice life’s adventures and ambitions…

Since becoming a Christian 8 months ago, God has undoubtedly made me a more ambitious person. Faith has given me the audacity and unstoppable determination to change the world. I moved to San Francisco, and co-founded a company, Hucksley, with an intention to put a dent in the universe. Here is my 2 minute testimony and baptism.

Unless you’re an atheist, you hopefully believe God created you, created the world, and is limitless in what He’s capable of doing. So why not ask him to be part of your dreams, goals, and family? Hear what He wants to do to those that commit to Him…

“For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.” — 2nd Chronicles 16:9

I’m not trying to convince anyone to become a Christian— that’s your life and your decision. I’m just trying to clarify a misconception that I think a lot of people have.

“ I will soar on wings like eagles, I will run and not grow weary.”
