Almost everyone wants to improve their circumstances but few are willing to improve themselves.

As a coach and consultant, a lot of people tell me what they want

I want to improve my communication
I want to make more money
I want a promotion
I want more energy
I want work/life balance
I want to live somewhere warmer…quieter…different
I want to be more patient
I want more time with my family
I want to grow my business
I want do something that matters

People say they want change
And while that may be true
I’ve become to be a lot less interested in what people want
And a lot more interested in what people are willing to do to get it

See, a lot of people who say, “I want”, really mean “It would be nice”
That is the difference between what we are interested in,
And what we are committed to

‘Interested’ comes packaged with words like HOPE, WANT, and TRY
It is accessorized with phrases like UNLESS, UNTIL, and ONLY IF

‘Committed’ requires us to put something on the line
It has tattoos that say WILLING, WHATEVER IT TAKES, and EVEN IF

If you want someTHING in your life to be different,
then someONE in your life has to be different
And that someone is…. [insert drum roll]
YOU

It’s you

If you want your life to be different,
you have to be different
And for a lot of people that is a scary thing.

Many people are more afraid of uncertainty,
than physical pain

Change is often scary
And to risk what you have,
for the possibility of what you want,
definitely takes courage

It requires bravery

It also cultivates courage and bravery

And so that which you need to take the leap,
is also that which you will gain in spades by doing so
And once you have cultivated that bravery,
nothing will be impossible.

The only thing that stops us is us
You are an infinite being,
whose limiting beliefs make you finite

Once you cultivate that bravery,
and get into the habit of leaning into fear,
you can go anywhere in the world,
go after any thing,
and help any one,
because you will not shut down on yourself

That journey is not an easy for most
That is a warrior’s journey
And for all of it’s prices,
the biggest cost is only paid if we do not take it

So are you ‘interested’ in the life you have imagined for yourself,
or are you ‘committed’ to it?
Are you willing to look where most people are petrified to look…inward?
Are you willing to link arms with yourself in this journey,
for the sake of who you can become,
and the difference you can make?

That is the makings of an epic life
Start, middle, and no end
