When you talk to everyone…
This weekend I traveled to Los Angeles for an internship interview and I had no idea what to expect with my travels. I was taking Uber for the first time, and I had to travel around 45 miles to the interview location, so I was a little concerned h0w the travel logistics would work out. What I didn’t realize was that I would meet some amazing people along the way. I enjoy talking with new people everywhere I go, and I found that when I had small talk with people next to me it often turned into very meaningful conversation. Sometimes at the beginning of talking to the person next to you on a flight, your Uber driver, or a stranger in a hotel, you can be nervous, however it has been my experience that I often make a new friend or connection each time I speak up.
The reason I share this is because people have amazing life stories that can help shape your perspective on the world. I had great conversations with two amazing guys, the first being my Uber driver, and the second a man in the airport, who both immigrated from other countries, Guatemala and Africa, respectively, and had such a motivational story to share. They both were examples of people living the America dream of leaving an impoverished nation and coming to America when they were in their early twenties. It made me realize how important giving people from other countries opportunities in America, especially during this political era where immigration is constantly in the news.
Have any of you ever had some great conversations while traveling? Maybe even conversation that helped shape your opinion about a certain political topic? I know that every time I reach out to those around me, most people are equally willing to reach back and even make a new friend.
