A final group of lessons from my cats.

(Only one more lesson next week. The hardest one of all.)

Isn’t friendship wonderful?

Michaela came into our lives as a very small kitten, probably just old enough to be away from her mother. We discovered her under the car, hiding from the driving rain, as we left the office one wet Friday evening, the 10th April, 1992. There were a number of wild cats in the area, and she resisted being caught, but I finally caught her. Apparently she did not belong to anyone as a pet, so I took her home. I slid her between my chest and my vest as I always do with very young kittens, and with hearing my heartbeat and feeling the furry warmth, she was asleep in no time as I drove home.

What a personality! Such a mixture of love and independence. And she grew into the most beautiful Maine Coone, although not pure bred according to our vet.

On another day some months later, 30th October 1992, the workers at the adjacent building were digging drains and making a terrible din, and one of our workers, Elizabeth, observed a young…
