Commitment is the first step in following your dreams.

You see people talking about commitment as something new, it’s not.
The way they’re using it, that’s new.
Commitment has become indistinguishable from drive or determination.
The truth is, commitment is neither of those. They’re each separate from the other.
We commit to doing something, but it’s our drive and our determination that makes finishing something possible.
Commitment is the first step to following your dreams.
Without commitment, we’re only trying, we’re not committed to pursuing the endeavour, we’re only doing half the work and getting half the results.
We commit to our spouses, our children and sometimes our jobs.
We rarely commit to our creative pursuits.
This is evident, especially this time of year, in the number of gym memberships and number of money people spend to quit smoking.
It takes a rare person to commit to following their aspirations.
The reason for the failure of all those people who join gyms, or want to better themselves is they don’t have a plan.
Without a plan, there is not the way to conquer what you want, not the way to move forward with what you want and there never will be until you commit.
The first step to is creating a plan.
Month by month create an outline of your life and what you want to have done by the end of each month.
Step two is to tell yourself, “I will do this. I will commit to finishing this, to losing this weight or learning a new language.
Step three is holding yourself accountable to your commitments.
This is where the failure rate is highest.
People don’t want to hold themselves accountable. Being accountable for your actions means that if you screw up, you must do something to punish yourself.
You don’t take that vacation or you do something to hold yourself accountable, but this is the most important thing, you must keep yourself accountable.
So, what are you going to commit to this year?
Peace and happy journey,
Brian
