I’ve never heard of Stylistics before. I majored in English and studied creative writing for 4 years as well as many other courses on poetry, children’s literature, literary theory, linguistics, sociology, and anthropology. But I studied back in the early nineties. Perhaps it was introduced later on in upper level linguistics courses. I only took the first year linguistics course because it seemed fascinating, and it was.

Everything I write about on Medium regarding writing stems from creative writing classes. The sentences you highlighted are areas that I’m suggesting writers should pay attention to when they read another writer’s work. That’s how they’ll learn to incorporate similar devices into their own work. The hooks you highlighted are tools that entice readers to continue with a story.
