A’s Cousin Visits Toronto
Date #814 — Saturday, March 12, 2016
B: This was such an amazingly fun day! A’s cousin came to visit us in Toronto. I wasn’t exactly sure what we would do with her. I always get a bit nervous entertaining others when them come to the city. Sometimes people just want to do touristy things, which I think can be a big rip-off and kind of boring. A’s cousin has been to the city a bunch, so she was cool with whatever.
We started the day by visiting my sister, her partner, and the nibling as they sampled their nutritional shake (Vira One) at a local vegetarian/vegan food store called Yam Chops. A’s cousin is pregnant so it was great to watch her interact with our nibling. It was also great to eat some food and then visit my favourite café Empire.
After that we decided to look up free festivals (there’s usually a few) and found the Maple Syrup festival at sugar beach. Unfortunately the festival was a total bust. The day was really cold and it seemed like everything was a lineup to nothing. We stayed long enough to get the pic below.
After that we eventually ended up at Snakes & Lattés on a whim. It’s a gaming café where for a flat fee you can sit and play as many games (all kinds of games) as long as you want. They also have pretty good food. We decided that each person would choose one game and then we would try a random game. We ended up staying for 7 hours!! Our favourite game was this one called Exploding Kittens. If you haven’t played yet, I recommend you try it. Just as we were leaving A went back in the café and bought the game.
We then picked up Pizza from my favourite place, Bitondo’s, and went back to our apartment to play more Exploding Kittens!! Yes, it’s that good. The night was so filled with fun and laughter.
A: This was such an amazingly fun day — and so unexpected too. It worked out that B’s sister and family were in Little Italy and so my cousin could meet the baby. She is 4 months pregnant and I’m so thrilled about it — she is too!! We hung out there for a bit and I kept saying, “This time next you your baby will be this big!” B’s siter and her got chatting about stroller advice and things and I think it gave my cousin a lot to think about and look forward to.
We went to a stupid Sugar Beach fest after but left when we realized we were hungry and the lines weren’t worth it. But good news — we wended up spending, I kid you not, 9 hours at a board game cafe on Bloor. I think we played every other game there. It was so much fun. We also found our new favourite game: Exploding Kittens. It’s actually so fun, we bought it.
We bought it and went home to play it. It was daylight savings time, too, so when we looked at the clock and it said 3:30AM we were like “WHAT!?”
Bed. Time. For us.
