The Snooze Button is Your Worst Enemy

We’re all guilty of it. As soon as we wake up, the first thing we do is actually delay the process of waking up. Some of us even intentionally set our alarms for earlier than necessary just so we can hit snooze a few times. This sets the tone for our entire day and places in motion a snowball of negativity — hitting snooze a couple times causes us to be late for work/class, which causes us to get angry in traffic, which causes us to be in a bad mood when we get to work/class, which causes you to close yourself off from your coworkers/classmates all morning, and before you know it, it’s lunchtime and you’re already wishing for this terrible day to be over. Were those extra 18 minutes of lying in bed actually worth ruining your entire day?

I hereby issue a challenge to you tomorrow to not hit snooze on your alarm. Need a little motivation? Think of it this way: No matter our current level of success/fulfillment/happiness, hearing our alarm alert means we’ve been gifted another day on this magnificent place called Earth. How dare we spend any additional minutes lying in bed when there are people out there who, because of physical limitations, literally can’t get out of bed to enjoy the day? How dare we lie in bed and dread the tasks we have to accomplish that day, instead of approaching the day with excitement for the wonderful things that are certain to happen to us? And, while we’re at it, how dare we spend the first 20 minutes of our day lying in bed scrolling through Instagram when there’s a whole world out there to explore, a beautifully designed masterpiece filled with REAL people?!

Now, if I’ve convinced you to ditch the snooze button once and for all, you may be thinking to yourself, “But there’s no way to deactivate the snooze feature on my smartphone alarm!” Fortunately there’s a solution, brought to us by one of my role models, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, raiser of eyebrows, dropper of elbows, and smeller of all things cookin’. The Rock has created a free alarm app called the “Rock Clock” which, you guessed it, has no snooze button. You can even choose to be serenaded by The Great One as your alarm alert.

Regardless of your method, tomorrow morning make the choice to attack the day you’ve been given with excitement and anticipation for the great things to come your way. Your day is filled with decisions — let the first decision of your day be a positive one. Just don’t be surprised when positivity continuously comes your way the rest of the day.
