Common Sense is not so Common

About 10 days ago, my microwave caught on fire. You know, the nice Kenmore one that sits above the stove and has a rack to nuke two things at once. One of the pieces holding the rack sparked. Luckily my roommate was standing next to it to put out the resulting fire. While I went directly to the management to get everything situated with maintenance; however, they said that it would take a while and the microwave would not be replaced for another 2 weeks because it’s a warranty issue with Sears. I told them “I can’t have that. I’m a single bachelor living with a roommate who doesn't cook. How will I heat up leftover take-out?”

The Aftermath

Management said they would switch the microwave with one in an unoccupied unit as soon as possible.

The maintenance guy comes over to replace it. Below is the conversation that followed:

Maint Man: “Does it work?”

Me: “It caught on fire.”

Maint Man: “Does it heat stuff up?”

Me: (in a slightly annoyed tone) “It CAUGHT on fire. Do you want me to show you?”

Maint Man: “Nah, it’s OK.”

I honestly do not know why he even asked the question. It seems like common sense is hard to come by as of lately.
