“… but never politely ignored.” I love this idea! It is one of the biggest hurdles to overcome before you can get something out of an artwork. Second to that need for initial attention is the problem of prematurely understanding an artwork. We’re quick to categorize and I think we know what it’s all about, closing ourselves off before we get to the good stuff.
