Great stories are memorable, impactful, and personal. Notes from THE ART OF STORYTELLING by Matthew Luhn (PIXAR). An absolute masterclass in simplicity.

  1. The HOOK — you have eight (8) seconds to get people’s attention. “If you can’t hook people in 8 seconds, you’ve lost them.” It’s got to be unusual, unexpected, and action or conflict. Pose a question. Ask WHAT IF?
  2. CHANGE — how is this thing going to change me? Great stories are about transformation.
  3. CONNECT — emotions that people share in common.
  4. AUTHENTICITY — don’t be clever. Be vulnerable and honest. It has to come from personal experience. Make it personal.
  5. STRUCTURE — how you deliver it. Set up>build>pay off.

Add them all together.
