I’d like to think that was our navy being sloppy and we’d be a little more alert on a war footing. Still that’s a full screening force something the Chinese (and a few other navies) don’t have.

I’m thinking those flattops are just mobile air bases that’ll hide within the island defense chain. Not really a threat to US naval forces; we’d roll over them (at a cost) more to intimidate and hold territory from your neighbors.
