The low-fat diet, of course, up until that point in time was completely untested in humans. Nobody in history had ever decided to lower the fat content of their diet for health reasons. We had no idea what effect it would have. Of course, this was around the time that we also believed that we could make a more nutritious substance for babies than breast milk. That we were somehow smarter than 20 million years of evolution. So, instead of eating natural fats such as cream, butter, and olive oil we turned to purely artificial oils like margarine. Of course, these turned out to kill us with trans-fats but that is a story for another time. We moved away from natural fat and towards refined carbs. So who won? You already know the answer, and we are all the worse off for it.
Obesity — a historical perspective
Dr. Jason Fung

I definitely feel like it’s a bit of a problem in the united states because of all the fast food places we have. I figure it’s because we are such a productive country and most of us have pretty busy and hectic lives. So when life is stressful and we get a 30 minute break from work, we want something quick, easy, and good. So a lot of times we go to fast food for our answer. Not I do think that a lot of obese people are obese because they literally do nothing with their lives. But I do think that we can get so busy with our lives that even the productive people lose sight of exercise and healthy eating. Man, what a problem. I guess it’s an inspiration to see all of the star athletes in our country that show us what it’s like to be healthy. Anyway, I do think it’s a problem. And I can’t bash on anyone who eats fast food, because just last week I went to a fast food place. Maybe you can count little ceasers as fast food too because it took me 5 seconds to get my pizza. What an issue. I guess I’ll write more about it my actual paper and really try to dissect every little detail. I get really worried when I see how obesity is affecting our society and there are just so many causes of it. We just need to take it one step at a time and focus on the most dangerous causes and work together to solve it.
