The Sandra Bullock Files #9: Me and the Mob (1992)

A look at one of Sandra’s most obscure movies!

The Sandra Bullock Files is a series that looks at the films of Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock, all the way from her debut in 1987, to her two major 2018 releases, Ocean’s Eight and Bird Box.

Before we get to the very busy year for Sandra that was 1993, let’s take a look at the last of her little-seen, barely released work. She only has two scenes in the reprehensible Me and the Mob, but one is definitely memorable.

Directed by Frank Rainone, this film sat on the shelf for a couple of years and didn’t get a proper release until Sandra’s star power started to climb. It tells of a struggling writer who takes a job with the mob to pay the rent, and the film stars James Lorinz in the lead role, as well as The Sopranos’ Vinny Pastore and Steve Buscemi in supporting ones.

Sandra’s first scene stands out the most and marks one of her most bizarre on-screen moments. She shows up at the writer’s apartment, proceeds to strip to her black bra and undies, and then simulates sex on top of him while he asks her questions about what makes great writing. All of this plays out in one single shot. Sandra commits to the best of her ability, but it’s difficult to understand why she ever agreed to appear in this amateurish movie. Maybe she was a few months behind on rent payments?
