It is true that there’s still Germans who want to avoid and deny their family’s personal involvement in the War. That’s a very human reaction I can’t fault them on. No one wants the cherished memories of their families tarnished because they directly or indirectly supported the baddies in a war. Especially as loathsome and horrendous as the Third Reich. However, Germany as a whole doesn’t deny that they were very much the side that was in the wrong during the WW2 and take great pains to ensure such an event could never happen in their country again. This is a stark comparison to the flat out whitewashing of history the Deep South has engaged in.
