How to win an invite from the Imagine Dragons
On Friday, the Imagine Dragons twitter account tweeted a cryptic message that turned out to be the first clue in an online scavenger hunt. I was at my desk eating lunch so I thought, why not? I ended up winning the scavenger hunt and I’ve had so many tweets on how it was done. I thought I’d post a quick run through so you can be prepared the next time. (The band does this sort of thing often. A great connection with their fans.)
The competition started with this tweet. The translation was “go to RollingStone.com and find the page where they wrote about the ‘Radioactive’ performance with Kendrick Lamar.”
In the comments section of that article, the most recent comment on the 8 month old article was from “Amigos in Danger”, an anagram of Imagine Dragons.

This comment translation “Go to the Imagine Dragons site and watch the most recent video in their News page.” (A fantastic video, by the way.)
Underneath that video was the next clue.

The translation of that clue “Go to Instagram and look for the post of Twitter trends when Imagine Dragons was the highest trending topic. That filtered image was about 14 months ago.

In the description field, the clue points you toward Twitter (140 characters) and the account is “Smoke and Mirrors” mired, or in other words, @srorrimdnaekoms.
Once there, you saw the clue in the bio:

And there were a number of tweets with letters and a hashtag.

Once unscrambled, you just had to tweet #DragonsTakeVegas and the first few people to do that were the winner. From there, you were sent a special invite.

I laughed at some of the @mentions on Twitter. One person, after reading my twitter bio was mad that “a dad won. Not even fair.” That was quickly followed by someone asking me to be their dad and take them to the show.
I’m looking forward to the show, and happy to save the band a little money because they don’t even need to fly me out and put me in the hotel as I’m a Las Vegas native myself.
Good luck to you on the next contest. Just follow the Imagine Dragons twitter account and watch carefully.
