Job Search Update, 6/24/2016
Just keep swimming, just keep swimming…..
Tonight I’m writing from the thriving metropolis of Duluth, MN. Clara has a soccer tournament this weekend and I’m keeping it real at the Country Inn & Suites with 12-year-old soccer girls swarming all over the place.
Word for the week is ATTITUDE.
Clara loves playing soccer. The minute she steps on the field she comes alive. Her team has lost all but 2 games this season. It has been brutal to watch. But Clara’s attitude hasn’t changed. She hits the field over and over with an awesome attitude, regardless of the score, regardless of how hot it is or how tired she is. Her attitude is unshakeable.
Even though I’ve had countless interviews and gone after dozens of positions, I need to keep that same attitude!
So far so good. I’ve stepped in as an intirim sales manager. The business has been around for 45 years and they are transitioning from the founding generation to the next generation. Business dynamics +family dynamics make for a dramatic environment at times.
There is so much to be done. Being at Boulder Creek 20 hours per week, I am really having to define what I’m able to do and not get pulled in beyond what I can deliver.
At the same time I need to be focused on finding a full time gig. It is possible that this could turn into something full time. Right now it is too early to tell how things could play out. Consulting + networking + interviewing, it is a full time effort.
JOB HUNT UPDATE
WestPoint Home — National Account Manager for Target
Thursday 6/30 is the big day. I have a 30 minute presentation, followed by 2–3 hours of interviews with the executive team. I’m really interested in this one. Everything about it plays into my strengths. Fingers crossed! This is a job I really want.
Chad & Mark at The Stable reached out this week and said that Disney is looking for a person to manage their business with Target. They put me in touch with the hiring manager and I found out that the position hasn’t been posted yet and more details will be shared in the next week or so. With my 15+ years in the entertainment industry, and 10+ years of that working directly with Target, this would be a natural fit.
No go on the Target National Account Manager position. The hiring manager called me and asked if I would be interested in another position coming up, managing their pre-paid business with Best Buy. I should know more in the days ahead.
Had a great interview with the president of the company. I have a ton of respect for what their team has created. Sometimes you just know when something isn’t the right fit. A huge thanks to Suzy for the recommendation!
Nothing to report. Went dark after some initial back & forth.
City of Oak Grove — City Administrator
Found out that they were further along in the process. Train had already left the station so to speak. This one was a total stretch.
SOMETHING JUST FOR FUN
I saw Finding Dory this past week and LOVED it. At the end of the movie they used the song “Unforgettable” performed by Sia. What a treat.
That’s why, darling, it’s incredible
That someone so unforgettable
