Exactly! I had this happen to one of my articles, which had around 80 or so recommends before the new update. And then to have all those recommends be converted to only one clap each was kind of discouraging, knowing that what once was a big achievement is now minuscule. Two people can give more than that — 100 claps if they both went to the maximum, versus only 2 recommends.
I liked the old recommend system. Sure it was binary and not everybody liked that, but it was simple, like you said. It also didn’t create this grade inflation-like result that claps do. One of my articles has fifty-one claps, and I keep seeing them as recommends at first and I think, Wow! Fifty-one people read my article! when it was only two people…
