Though many may disagree, I adored the green Medium logo. I thought it was aesthetically pleasing and I like aesthetically pleasing things. Then I get the software update on my phone with a new Medium logo for the app, and I refused to download it (until Apple downloaded for me. I also avoided downloading the claps update for the app for two days until the update downloaded itself too.)

But the new one is easily comparable to the logos of many other online publications that most of the general American public despises, such as the New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, etc. The logos are black and white with the familiar typography that our eyes have gotten used to seeing.

Medium’s old logo was unique, and it supported its default highlight color — green. And it was a really nice shade of green, too! It differentiated itself from the standard publications that supported the 1% — the people who are at the top of the publishing industry and didn’t care that the rest of it was falling apart and that millions of other professionals were being ruined.

The green M was a comforting sight to me, it told me that I wouldn’t have to get some prestigious degree and get the best credentials in order to be published and become a top writer somewhere. Medium already did that and more. I’m not a person who likes minimalist design and layouts, but Medium pulled it off beautifully… and I hope they aren’t thinking about updating that too!
