Geshtinanna: The Scribe Goddess of the Afterlife

Geshtinanna is a goddess in the Sumerian pantheon, who was primarily associated with fertility, vegetation, and the underworld. In Sumerian mythology, Geshtinanna is depicted as the sister of Dumuzid (also known as Tammuz), who is considered a god of vegetation and the annual cycle of life and death.

She played a significant role in the Sumerian myth known as “The Descent of Inanna” or “Inanna’s Descent to the Underworld.”
