About that novel

It’s (nearly) time to start releasing my first novel. Which, to be completely honest, isn’t quite entirely finished yet. Mostly finished, mind you. Just some more editing needed. But I have a plan.

I will start releasing it bit by bit, in serial form, on this website. As I do that, I will continue working on the editing, and eventually release the whole thing in serial form on the website. So it will be free to read for anyone.

I will also produce an ebook version of the whole thing, which will be free for folks who support my work (or John’s — see here for details), and for backers of our documentaries. Otherwise it will be available for sale. If all goes well I will also release a dead-tree version that will be available for purchase sometime in the summer.

Why in serial form? Because something tells me that if I don’t start releasing it soon, I’ll find excuse after excuse to delay publishing it. Which is just a fancy way of saying, Cuz if I don’t release it soon I’ll chicken out again. So help me not chicken out by reading it and showing me you want to know what happens next.

I’m not exactly sure when I’ll release the first bit. I was hoping to do it before the end of April but that was before my computer died unexpectedly last week. (That’s not chickening out, right? That’s a valid genuine pure-leather excuse, right?) So maybe it’ll be early May. But it’s coming. It’s coming.

It’s funny you know when I’m warming up for a fight at a tournament there’s always someone asking me if I’m ready. I always laugh and say, “No, but it doesn’t matter.” The fight happens when it happens, and all I can do is get in the ring and do my best. I see publishing my novel as a similar exercise. If I wait until I’m ready I’ll never release it. So ready or not, it’s coming.
