The Five Best Ways to Review 2013 and Start an Amazing New Year
The New Year is a time of renewal and celebration. It’s a time to be introspective, reflect on the year past, and plan what we’d like to happen for the coming year.
Most of us focus on our failures, but what if you took the time to celebrate your successes of 2013? What if you took the time to carefully plan what you’d like to see happen in 2014? Change doesn’t happen without an intention and plan. Life doesn’t always go as planned, but we stay stuck if we don’t make conscious goals to get to where we want to go.
Since New Years resolutions are generally half baked plans that rarely stick, take the time this New Year to do some thinking about the year past and the year ahead. Here are 5 ways to begin to create conscious, heart centered goals that stick.
1. Make a list of healthy life categories.
Health, Career, Finances, Personal Growth, Relationships, etc. For each category, write down:
Doing this exercise will help you recognize how far you’ve come. Celebrate your successes, figure out where you went wrong, and how you’re going to change for next year.
2. Figure out what how you want to feel in 2014.
Danielle Laporte’s desire map talks about core desired feelings. I love this because it forces you to think deeply about how you want to feel. This allows you to create goals from the heart instead of goals you think you should be reaching. If in 2014 you want to feel more free, then you can begin to find ways to create freedom in your life. Maybe that means quitting your job and traveling for a year. Maybe it means starting your own business. Whatever it means to you, being connected to how you want to feel helps create a more conscious life.
3. Become clear about your intentions for 2014.
Intentions are a purpose that comes from deep within. What do you really want in life? What fulfills you? These are hard questions that take some deep thinking to answer. One of my intentions for 2014 is to give more. That means becoming a Big Sister, finding ways to help where I can, and taking less and giving more.
Spring cleaning is nice. But there’s something powerful about organizing this time of year that allows you to start the year fresh. Take the time to clear out your desk, your computer, your bedroom — or whatever else needs urgent organizing. Clearing your 2013 clutter will make space for 2014.
5. Start the year with a cleanse no matter how small.
By cleanse I don’t necessarily mean you have to go all out with a water or a juice cleanse. I simply mean making a conscious effort to put clean foods into your body. Less flour, less sugar, less fried foods, more veggies. Starting the New Year by treating your body with respect sets a tone. Everything else you want to accomplish will follow.
