#SuperBowl, The Life of Pablo, the Death and Re-birth of a Meme (#TheOscars) and #LeapDay — Social Media Re-hash: February 2016

After the misery of January, February didn’t have much to live up to… In fact, we had quiet a lot to look forward to — the Super Bowl, The BRITs, The Oscars, an extra day and we would finally find out what Kanye West had been banging on about for so long.
So lets start at the beginning…
The Super Bowl

We touched on previously the significance the Super Bowl holds in advertising and social media, with companies shelling out millions for 30 seconds of air time during the big game, and this year was no different.
Doritos without out a doubt had the most talked about advert, and in what was a relatively tame year (no shock and awe) they more than made up for it…
It isn’t just about ads though, you also have the spectacle that is ‘The Halftime show’. This year was Beyoncé’s year. During the peak of the Super Bowl halftime show, Beyoncé shared the stage with Coldplay and Bruno Mars (and not everyone was happy about it)
However, in the process Beyoncé pulled in 147,000 tweets a minute compared with 83,000 tweets about Coldplay. Inside Levi’s Stadium, the singer was tagged in 60 pictures per minute on Instagram. I think we can all agree that’s no easy feet.
In other Super Bowl news, Apple CEO, Tim Cook posted a rather shocking photo from the pitch after. The internet reacted in spectacular fashion.

This was the best one I found, and the user was subsequently blocked by Tim Cook, who then proceed to remove the tweet.
Oh Tim.
Kanye West
You may have seen some of Mr. West’s tweets over the last few months and wondered like most, WTF his he jabbering on about, from beef with Wiz Khalifa, begging Mark Zuckerberg and Larry Page for help in clearing his supposed $53 million debt, to the every changing title of his new album — it ended up been called ‘The Life of Pablo’, incase you didn’t know.
To which Mr. Zuckerberg indirectly responded…

We won’t go into much more detail, as we wouldn’t want to indulge Mr. West’s ego any more. We did like the album though.
The Oscars
Speaking of egos, The Oscars took place on the 28th and Leo finally got what he’s always strived for. Or did he?

If you believe we are actually living in a reality where Leo did win the Oscar, you also live in a world without one of internet’s greatest treasures — the Leo searching meme. Here is a small selection to jog your memory…

Fear not though, as we got a new meme in the process. Introducing the ‘Leo finally won an Oscar’ meme.
And at least Leo himself sees the funny side in his 22 year quest to win an Oscar…
We also now have Morgan Freeman eating cookies, which I think proves he is just like all of us!
And last but not least…
Leap Day
February got even better when we realised we had an extra day. How did people spend it…
Well, a lot proved that we really haven’t run out of things to moan about in the UK as a petition was set up to make any Leap Day a bank holiday.
Over to you March!
