Be More Sure
A year-long memory journey
You know those times when it seems the Lord is teaching you so much, you just can’t seem to contain it?
This is one of those times.
First, you should know something about me. I’m a doubter. I struggle to believe that everything works for good, that the Lord will really come through on His promises. It is easily my main struggle, and I fight it everyday.
My fight was a hard one in 2015 (you can read about it here), but man, Jesus proved Himself faithful over and over again. I’ve seen the importance of looking back and seeing how faithful He has been, which gives me the eyes to look ahead believing He is able to do what He says He will do. All of this to bring you to the point I was at about a month or so ago.
I believe you Lord, but help my unbelief.
I have never been so sure of the Lord as I am at this moment, but that doesn’t mean those doubts go away. My fight last year was frustrating, but I believe in the power of the Word. It is living, active, and has the power to rid of all fears, doubts, and unbelief (yet another lesson coming out of my time in Portland last summer).
The point of all of this is to say, I’m getting serious about my doubts this year. I want to believe Jesus is able. I want to believe He has a plan. I want to believe He is more glorious and can satisfy more than anything else in the world.
Starting tomorrow, I’m spending a week memorizing parts of the Word. Half of the year will be in the Old Testament, and the other half in the New Testament. I’m sharing this not as an “oh look at me,” but because I believe in the Word, and I believe we all have doubts from time to time. This is simply a resource, hopefully to encourage you and stir you up to love Jesus more.

To wrap up, I just have to tell you all where the name Be More Sure came from (the Spirit blows my mind, y’all).
I’ve had this whole idea brewing in my mind, and just a few days ago I was reading in 2 Peter and this verse just jumped at me.
“And we have something more sure, the prophetic word, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.” || 2 Peter 1:19 ESV
Peter had just mentioned the Transfiguration where he had literally heard the voice of God, and had seen the true majesty of Jesus…and he says we have something more sure than that? It gave me a whole new love for the Word. It made me want to be more sure.
Be more sure of His goodness.
Be more sure of His purpose.
Be more sure that I know Him deeply.
Be more sure that I am loved by Him.
So here’s to 2016. I hope and pray you can be more sure of Him too.
