Monkey Business Illusion

This is a poem inspired by the Monkey Business illusion by Daniel Simons. The idea of the experiment is to demonstrate that when we are very focussed on certain aspects of life we tend to miss certain other obvious aspects that appear right in front of our eyes.

For a developer this could for instance translate to how well we focus on developing for certain requirements in hand but we miss out on the obvious other dependent issues that could well break !

For a spiritual seeker this could perhaps mean that while we are focused on our limited identity we end up missing the obvious totality !

Yesterday was yet another day

That started and ended

much the normal way

Mystic monkeys

Drummed and danced in joy

Not one got noticed

In the midst of the noise

Today, as I begin the day

I set my mind on nothing at all

And I see every monkey

As clear as transparent glass
