Bliss in New Beginnings

Summer is here and in full swing. The AC’s are humming all over my neighborhood. The ceiling fans are whirring in every cafe and pub I visit. The ice cream trucks are dashing around, trying to keep up with the demands for cool treats. (For more ideas on keeping cool this summer, check out my previous post on Summer Bliss, with more reasons to enjoy ice cream at http://bringblissback.blogspot.com/2015/06/summer-bliss.html) In my own backyard, my apartment pool is jammed packed everyday!
As we move into a new season and the warm, sticky air settles into stay a while (believe me, my hair knows!), I’ve been wondering about starting over and when is the best time to begin again. I was asking myself, from my own experiences, when is the best time to start something new? To start a new project? Begin a new business? Write a book? Post your pictures on Storehouse, Tumbler or Instagram? Clean up your house and donate all the unwanted and unused items to charity? Host a neighborhood meet-and-greet? Plan a get-away with family or friends? Finish that next blog post? (A-hem!)
Would it help you to know that listening to your inner voice is key to the process of starting over? Would it make a difference knowing that when you get quiet and centered through prayer and meditation, the steps become clear?
I’m speaking from experience here. Like many of you I’ve been laid off with little to no warning. I went through a dreaded divorce in my late thirties. I am former homeowner, now a long term renter. I also struggle with starting over, redefining myself in a society that wants to attach various unflattering labels to me. From my experiences, I’ve learned that the hardest part about moving forward is letting go of the life you used to live…the life you used to know. Here are some truths that have helped me begin again.

So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without God’s unfolding grace.

This kind of breakthrough should be normal. Because that’s what happens when you begin to pursue your passion. The world makes room for your dream. Others come to your aid. You figure it out.
