When moving to a new place, especially during college, it’s hard to find good local places to eat. When I first started school at Maryville College, I was unsure of where to eat in the cities of Maryville and Knoxville. This will be the first of a series of posts about the best places to eat in the surrounding areas around MC. Today’s blog post will specifically be about the city of Maryville.

Below are what I believe to be the top six places to eat in Maryville, TN as a college student.

6. Vienna Coffee House — $

Vienna is one of my favorite places in the city of Maryville. They’re a fair trade coffee shop that offers not only a variety of drinks but food dishes as well. It’s one of my favorite places to work on homework and eat lunch. Plus, they have a lot of outside seating which is nice.

5. Osaka Japanese Grill — $

Osaka is also a little bit of a drive from campus but the food is worth it. They offer all the dishes one normally finds at a Japanese restaurant but the prices very fair and the portions are huge! Normally when I eat at Osaka, I leave with enough leftovers for lunch the next day. This is definitely one of the favorite places for MC students to eat.

4. Lemon Grass — $$

Lemon Grass, a locally owned Thai restaurant, offers sushi and Thai dishes that are very tasty. Their portions are large which makes it worth the money. Plus, their sushi is made fresh at the bar.

3. Chapulines Streetacos — $

Chapulines Streetacos is a bit farther from campus, around ten to fifteen minutes, but it’s worth the drive. It’s a locally owned counter service restaurant that serves Mexican food in the style of a food truck. They offer a wide selection of dishes and many sides. My favorite thing to order is the plantains!

2. Sakura Sushi and Grill — $

Sakura is another great locally owned restaurant just five minutes from campus. They offer great specials almost every night of the week, including their daily special for chicken hibachi with a starter of Crab Rangoon or a California roll with soup or a salad for about nine dollars. They also have a really great selection of desserts including bubble tea.

1. Barley’s Taproom and Pizzeria — $$

Barley’s is a locally owned restaurant with amazing sandwiches, pizzas, and other dishes. The dishes are also fairly priced for someone on a college budget. Also, if you’re twenty-one they offer a variety of craft beers and other beverages as well. Their upstairs bar with pool tables is one of my favorite places to hang out with friends.
