In iOS 10, location is not simply extracted from GPS or metadata. There is computer vision/image recognition technology that identifies a church, for example, or a wharf, in a photograph. Type “cat” and it will show you pictures of cats within your library, even though you may not have explicitly identified the photograph (through keywords/tags, titles etc) to be cat-related.
