Central Pennsylvania, Let’s Bridge the Gap

It doesn’t matter who you are, it’s an incredible time to be an individual immersed in the world of technology. At our fingertips we have the ability to connect to resource after resource after resource, and become knowledgable in just about any field peeking our interest. What a time to be alive! We can do all of this, without leaving our homes. And when we do leave our homes, we can jump into the world and share our knowledge.

Since taking an Intro to JavaScript class last summer with Girl Develop It Lehigh Valley, I’ve been keeping in touch, offering my help where I can to grow their chapter and following. And now, my friends at Girl Develop It Lehigh Valley are looking to help me share knowledge with Central Pennsylvania. Girl Develop It is a nonprofit organization that exists to help women learn valuable web and software development skills in an environment that they feel safe to ask questions and be vulnerable. Learning is an incredible skill we possess. Let’s take advantage of that skill and use it for what it’s worth.

GDI LV has offered me the support to kickstart a movement that could potentially result in our very own Girl Develop It chapter within Central Pennsylvania. With enough interest, excitement and momentum, we can help women all over the area learn new skills, build upon existing ones and begin new careers.

With that being said, I’d like to invite you to be a part of this. I’d like to ask you to join me in creating a group of women advocating for other women, creating workshops and meetups, and, most importantly, supporting other women. Men, you can join us too! Girl Develop It welcomes male teachers, supporters, teaching assistants and advocates.

I want to know what you what to learn. I want to know what you can bring to the table and teach others. What information are you willing to share with other women in the area to help us all thrive? Are you willing to get involved and make this a reality?

A meet up to get together, talk about ideas, and find a few individuals to help get this goin’ is currently in the works. If you’re interested in helping out, drop me a line @brisayswhaat on Twitter or hello@bripiccari.me. The more, the merrier!

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
