Becoming Oliver…

Hi! You might have noticed I changed my name on Facebook? It’s the place we go to make all things official, so we might deliver news — good or bad — in one fell swoop to those in our day-to-day lives and the far-flung folks who once held a similar distinction at one time or another.

I thought about crafting a long-winded letter to everyone about this incredibly personal journey of self-discovery but then it dawned on me — I owe you nothing. None of you. Not an explanation. Not a gentle reasoning. Not a HOW DID NONE OF US SEE THIS COMING? Nothing.

Conversely, I owe myself everything. Happiness. Authenticity. Life.

And so we’re here. So here I am. Oliver. That’s it.

How can you help? Probably by not being an ignorant human being for starters. But likely, the easiest way will be to refer to me as Oliver, or Ollie if you’re so inclined as well as the pronouns he/him/his. It’s honestly that simple.

If you’ve known me for awhile. It might be hard. You might make mistakes. That’s fine. We’re only human after all. Just please don’t make a big to-do out of it, move on. You’ll get it right next time, hopefully.
