Feal the Fear and Follow It
Feal the Dare and Do It
There’s a book called Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway, which is good.
But the other day, I read something more interesting in another book.
The author suggested that instead of using fear to move us away from something “dangerous” we made friends with our fear.
She did that because “What you resist… persists!”
What Do You Fear?
Do you dream about becoming a copywriter, but you’re not ready to try Upwork yet?
Do you want to do email marketing, but you’re scared to push the Send button?
Guess what?
Your inner guardian is trying to keep you safe.
But keeping you safe may not be in your best interest.
Just because it’s scary, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. As long as it doesn’t bring your life at risk.
If you write a sales page for a customer and it doesn’t bring in any sales… it’s not the end of the world. And besides, it probably will. Copy is not the only thing that affects sales. The product itself has the highest influence.
If you write an email that nobody opens, it’s not life-threatening. It just means you should try again. And again.
Your Fear Can Guide the Way
There’s reason to believe that what you fear may actually be the thing you should do.
The reason why you fear it is that it’s new. It’s unknown.
It looks scary because you haven’t done it before.
And who knows what can come out of it?
What if it meant success and that your life would change because of doing it?
That’s why you feel the fear.
The world as you know it will change. For the better, often, but change it will.
And whenever something changes, it seems scary.
Next Time You Feel Fear
Instead of moving away from what you fear (again, NOT life-threatening stuff… the stupid stuff we all fear like making a video, hitting send, and things) — move towards it.
Do it.
Feel the dare and do it.
Whether the result changes your life for the better or not, you will grow as a person.
