This Is Why You Are Not Getting Sh*T Done

The past few weeks have been insanely busy for me. By day, I am a property manager, and by night I am a writer. When I’m not at my 9–5, I serve as an Editor for a popular website for Millennial women (oh hey xoNecole) and I freelance for about 3 other publications, all while trying to increase my own writer presence. Oh and did I mention I am trying to start my own business too?

Yep, I know. I have too much going on. You know what else I realized, sometimes I have so many grand ideas, but not enough grit or hustle to turn my ideas into reality. Too often, I find that the same lack of hustle and grind affects other areas in my life.

Today was the first time that I actually had ‘me’ time after work. Honestly, after working overtime at my job, I just wanted to stuff my face with Chipotle and down a few glasses of wine.

In the midst of my Chipotle-wine dreams, my boyfriend invited me out for a run. A run? Really? Like today? How Sway! *rolls eyes*

Even though running was the last thing on my mind, I knew it was something I needed to do. For the past 5 years, I have maintained unwanted FUPA and I’ve been craving my cute, flat stomach back. I knew that in order to meet my stomach and waistline goals, I had to workout.

Anyone that knows me can attest that I am THE diet queen. I’ve tried almost every diet there is. Herbalife? Check. Beyonce diet? Yep, did that too. Vegan “lifestyle change”. Tried it.

After starting each diet, my FUPA never goes away. A few days later, I find myself on Pinterest looking up more diet tricks and looking at my favorite fitness inspiration on IG and Facebook and wondering how I can get abs and killer arms like them. Then I blame it on my nonexistent athletic background and say that’s why I can’t get fit like I want. Excuses. We all have them.

However, I know now the secret to meeting my fitness goals: you have to stick to a plan and be consistent. You can’t just talk about how much weight you want to lose, you have to literally get your ass up and move! And don’t just move a little to say you did something — get some real cardio in, lift weights until you want to cry and curse. The same body that you wish that you had, that you are jealous of _____ for having is the same body that _____ worked relentlessly for. The same works for our business goals, #squadgoals, and #baegoals. We want the same results in a matter of months when those same folks have built what you are dreaming for in years.

Greatness takes time. It doesn’t happen overnight. Trust me, if there was a way to get a nice little set of abs overnight, I would be the first to sign-up. When I first started blogging, I was blogging for free and wasn’t getting paid. It was until I hustled harder and had those late nights and early mornings that I started finding paid gigs and more engaged readers.

If you have a goal that you want to reach, just remember you have to put in the work. No matter how tired you are, or how slim accomplishing your dreams are looking, you have to consistently work. If you have all of the dreams but no grit to match, you won’t get shit done and will continue to just dream.

Whenever I get in a slump and are unmotivated by my goals, I listen to motivating podcasts, pray, and look at my bank account. Podcasts are major key because I can learn from other aspiring and current bosses, praying definitely works because can’t nobody motivate me like Jesus, and looking at my bank account becomes inspirational when I don’t see a constant flow of dollars flowing through.
