A selection of projects that I completed during the 100 Days of Code Challenge.

I completed the 100 Days of Code Challenge where I spent at least one hour coding for 100 days (in a row!!!). I originally started learning to code this year because I wanted to be able to customize the design of a blog I wanted to create. Now I’m hooked! Below is a recap of everything I have accomplished during the past 100 days.

What I Learned

I started the challenge with some beginner knowledge in CSS and HTML. Now I have the ability to build complex web applications. …

Below is a recap of everything that I accomplished during the past two weeks.

Created more CSS images, started planning my next big project, worked on Free Code Camp projects and continued to learn Node.js.

Projects

CSS Images

Over the past week and a half I created three CSS images. My favorite was for the ‘cell phone’ prompt. I decided to create an interactive cat themed phone to make it a little more interesting. Users can navigate through the phone by clicking on the images to bring up screens and clicking on the home button to return to the home screen. Since I did not make a screen for every icon, I created an animation to indicate which icons are clickable. …

Below is a recap of everything that I accomplished during the past two weeks.

A lot of progress! Created more CSS images, finished first big project, learned about SVG and animations, worked on Free Code Camp projects, learned about UI and UX design and started to learn Node.js.

Projects

I managed to knock out two projects the past two weeks and I have started planning my next one. I was able to utilize a lot of things I have learned in regards to UI and design.

API Project — MusicalPicks

This project uses The Movie Database API to pull information about movie musicals. The user takes a short five question quiz to determine what genres they prefer and then is presented a list of musicals based on those genres. Users can also search musicals by genre after the quiz has been completed if they would like to see more options. …

Worked on an API project (musical related, of course), practiced with Illustrator and Sketch, worked on some Free Code Camp algorithms and started learning more about UI and UX design.

API Project

I have been working on an API project for the past week with guidance from my mentor. Here is an outline of my process so far:

Planning

The first part of the assignment required a user flow chart and a sketched wireframe. The initial app idea was that the user would take a quiz and then receive a list of musicals based on their quiz responses. …

I have been working on a quiz app that utilizes jQuery and JavaScript. Right now, I have written the HTML and CSS and am working on figuring out the JavaScript. I’m sure you can guess what this quiz is about. Hint: it’s Hamilton. I spent a ton of time relearning Illustrator making vector images (I made that Jefferson and Hamilton above!) …

Introduction

To start this year, I will be taking part in a 100 Days of Code Challenge. For more information on that challenge check out this blog post by Alexander Kallaway. The challenge will be a great way to help get me started on my 2017 coding journey. The plan is to expand on the coding challenge and learn everyday this year. I will commit to Github daily and I will also be posting a weekly summary blog post here on Medium.

My experience with coding started when I was I the 8th grade. I taught myself HTML and CSS making guild pages for an online game and dabbled with coding on and off in the years after. Starting in November 2016, I started to get serious about learning how to code again. I will be following a few guides and tutorials during this challenge, which will be listed below in the tools section. …
