Andela Female Bootcamp Cohort 16:Self learning Clinic
I was fortunate enough to be selected to join the Andela boot camp for a second time. However, my experience this time round was going to be different . It was an all female cohort boot-camp. The second of its kind to be hosted at Andela Kenya.
This is exciting!
Working in a male dominated field can sometimes make you think that female developers don’t exist. But this boot-camp was enough proof that more and more are learning how to code and doing it flawlessly.
Shortly after a brief introduction of what is expected of us as developers, we had an introduction to Test Driven Development(TDD) where we were able to do a sample code on the blackboard that showed us how to program a test case as well as to logically present our code. We were able to learn all about version control systems and how to use it. This, at this point was becoming familiar to me having had the opportunity to work at it the first time round.
But hey, a little bit of practice is not bad.
The facilitators were able to touch on a couple of things to prepare us for the coding experience such as cultivating the growth experience and consistently encouraging us to use all the resource available at Andela. Later, we were given time to complete the day’s task and collaborate if necessary.
To be honest, this is the first time I have ever been around a bunch of girls who code. It was somewhat a peculiar occurrence to me on one end, and an inspiring experience on the other. A peculiar one because of being a female developer used to working in a male dominated environment. An inspiring one because I was surrounded by an amazing group of women who want be world class developers. The day was filled with collaborative efforts from everyone, which was a sign of good things to come. As they say, time will tell
Code smarter, collaborate more.
