Throughout the history of humanity, strictness and self-discipline was a key principle in cultivating unwavering mental and physical strength. Spartans undergo vigorous mental and physical training, Samurai warriors sculpt their minds to have unbreakable mental focus, and modern-day military personnel undergo soul-crushing training in preparation for combat. Despite the thick-skinned courageous nature of possessing a mind of strictness and self-discipline, a dark side looms on the other side that all of us a blinded to — the inability to bend to life’s inconveniences.

This isn’t to say that strictness and self-discipline are necessarily a bad thing. Both are ever more relevant within the modern age of society. Some lack the self-discipline to continue with the 5th weight loss program; others lack the self-discipline to not watch porn; whilst the vast majority just simply lack the self-discipline to persevere during times of hardship. However, on the other end of the spectrum, someone who possesses indestructible levels of self-discipline can relate to the fact that they have an inner drill surgent within them. Constantly screaming at them despite the unimaginable levels of suffering they are experiencing.
