Inspiration

First post. This should be interesting…

So, during this summer I took some time, between 12 hours of school and a job, to find out what exactly I wanted my senior collection to be based upon. I went through TONS (and I mean TONS) of ideas and ran across one that automatically caught my attention. In the mist of listening to some awesome Earth, Wind and Fire, it dawned on me… your inspiration should be about the 1970s! I know that may seem so vague but there is a much deeper meaning to me.

Throughout my life, my dad has always been a very influential person to me and as I was listening to Love’s Holiday, I thought back to the days that he would pick me up from school before going to pick my other siblings and as we sat there waiting for them to come out, he would definitely have the radio on either a local station playing the best of R&B from the 1970's or one of his favorite CD’s from Marvin Gaye, Bob James, Al Green, and the list goes on and on. But something was so fascinating about the feeling that I would get from just listening to the songs and I would always ask him “Daddy who sings this song?” or “What are they talking about?” and he would always have a story about what he was doing either when the song first came out or what the song reminded him of. Ultimately, those songs stuck with me all the way until now. Since then, I have researched movies, other artist, clothing, and much more just to learn and relive some of those exciting times that he would always tell me about. I’m sure this is very obvious by the way I wear my hair (lol).

Since becoming a designer, I have found aesthetic to be full of raw and lively attributes and I feel that it is very fitting to this inspiration for my collection. After an entire life story of my obsession with the 70s, I hope you enjoy my sketches and anticipated mood for this collection. ☺

Cheers,
