Should the U.S. have gotten involved with Syria?
The U.S. bombed Syria because of this terrorist group called ISIS. President Obama sent troops down to stop ISIS. In late June, the U.S. sent 300 more troops into Iraq, now having 800 troops down there. There is an estimated 20,000–31,500 people fighting for ISIS. We are currently trying to help out the rebel groups against ISIS. But why are we doing this?
Who knows why the U.S. has to get involved with every single thing that is happening. Who made us the police? Exactly, we’re not. I don’t think it’s necessary to get involved with every bad thing that’s happening world wide. Sure, it is completely awful. But it’s none of our business. They haven’t attacked the U.S. yet. We shouldn’t be getting involved unless our help is asked for. How is the U.S. bombing Syria going to affect our relations with other countries? Why would you bomb someone who is not a active threat to the U.S.? There’s a lot to think about, and I do not believe it was went about the right way, or thought out.
If we were to get involved with Syria, it should have been much sooner. According to the website of CNN, this terrorist group has been at it since 2004. But, they’ve really stepped it up in April 2013. But ever since February 2014, ISIS has been active almost every month. They’ve really stepped it up, and if we’re to get involved, we need to step it up too. These decisions need to be quick, precise, and carried through. If we’re going to continue to bomb Syria, it needs to be with more force so they know we are serious.
Although Obama is commander in chief, he did not get U.N. or congressional approval to bomb Syria. As I read on www.firstlook.org, apparently the government/ Obama made up this terrorist group called “Khorasan”. They claimed that they had a more direct threat to the U.S. To me, this information does not seem correct or well backed up with facts. In my opinion, I think they made up this group, so they had more of a reason to bomb Syria. The U.S. is looking for trouble we don’t need.
Honestly, ISIS is an awful terrorist group. They have done horrendous things. For example, they kidnapped 140 schoolboys and drove 1.2 million Iraqis put of their homes. Also, some members in this group either knew or were involved with the bombing of 9/11. But how does the government know this for sure? ISIS has not been a direct threat to the U.S. recently. So why get involved now? In my opinion, I think this is going to start huge problems in the U.S. We know what they’re capable of, and it’s frightening to wait and see who will make the next move.
