FOE — Review: Starring Paul Mescal, Saoirse Ronan & AI?
Directed by Garth Davis whom was ready to answer a plethora of questions after an early screening of the film at Cinema about his film adaptation of Iain Reid’s best selling psychological-thriller novel.
So we know it’s an adaptation of a pre-existing book about Junior (P. Mescal) and Hen (S. Ronan) a young married couple living in a rural area completely isolated from the modernisation of the rest of the world, until the couple is paid a visit from an almost otherworldly stranger.
However, during the Q&A portion of the screening, when asked how the film differs from its source material, Davis talked great lengths on how he was more interested in the relationship dynamic than the sci-fi elements some may have expected to of been highlighted on the big screen. Instead, all the bizarre happenings act as points of reflection for Junior and Hen both as individuals and as a young couple whose marriage is falling apart.
