Farmers are People too
Sarah Mock

First I’d like to thank you for helping people understand farming. Farmers really do need all the help we can give them. Food is just too cheap — farmers are spending more each year and making less margin.

That said, converting to organic corn, for example, only takes 3 years, not 7, and it will pay for itself over 3 years. The first 2 years deliver lower margins than conventional corn (same sales price, but 10–15% less yield), but the sale price of year 3 makes the first three years more profitable than conventional.

Check out for one example of a business that is investing in organic crops.
