I Am A Child

I don’t remember

How I arrived here.

I’ve heard the stories,

But are they true?

A man and woman,

Who lived a long time,

Sent up the prayer

That pulled me through.

I was a child.

On my first morning,

I could hear music.

I didn’t know the style.

Now I’m a child

In this old body

That I took care of,

Well, for a while.

I am a child.

If you look closely,

You’ll see it in me.

I can’t stop nothing.

It’s in my eyes.

Oh, all those sages,

It took for ages:

What would it take to

Make this man wise?

I am a child.

I’ve grown no wiser.

The years have taught me

To let it slide.

Now I’m a child

In this old body.

I took my youth out

For a ride.

I am a child.

I am a child

This is my future.

Strung out on freedom,

And, I just smiled.

Now I’m a child

In this old body

That I laid waste to

When I went wild.

I am a child.
