A Much-Needed Mental Health Break

It was time for a break.

After searching for a new place to live — a process that took nearly ten weeks — I was fried emotionally. Until you’ve been through it, and I’m guessing most readers have, it can be a grueling process. Finding a place I could afford and then hoping to be approved by the landlord or management agency will do a job on you mentally. At least it did on my daughter and me. We had highs and lows, but in the end, we found a place that allowed us to bring our two cats and belongings.

Physically moving was a pain in the ass. I’ll leave it at that.

We’re still unpacking boxes, deciding what to keep or toss. Items that will stay include the hundreds, perhaps thousands of photos, letters, and documents my parents saved over 40 years of marriage. More on that later this week.

My sister and her husband routinely rent a home on Cape Cod or Maine in August of each year. It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I took advantage of her generosity to stay with them. Cape Cod during the summer (or any other time) is well out of my wallet’s reach.
