I had a similar GP experience in my “quasi-diagnosis” of Bipolar Disorder. During my first mania (which I didn’t know was occurring), I befriended a woman who was a BPD predator, and paid the price. My GP was offended by the fact that my condition involved a relationship (platonic) with a woman who was not my wife, and kind of dismissed me with a scrip of a low-dose anti-psychotic med. No follow-up at all. I’ve never seen a specialist/therapist due to insurance/employment-or-lack-thereof issues. I think many GPs are still in the dark ages in terms of mental illness.
