Should Technology Transform Democracy?
Democracy is contextual, it is a culturally dependant process.
And technology is rapidly changing our societies. It will thus be changing democracy.
There is no such thing as a perfect democratic process. Reaching a decision as a nation is a subjective process, it can’t be summarised by a vote in a ballot.
Democracy is not going well. People don’t cooperate, people don’t feel engaged, people don’t see the point.
Democracy is fragile, and so any change is a threat to what has been gained.
But it would be equally threatening to let democracy grow old.
Technology can help us better cooperate, better support one another, and better deal with complex issues.
Technology allows us to experiment more, and to measure more accurately how any political decision impacts our lives.
So, let’s not give technology up to few international corporations. Let it work by us, and for us.
