If you came across this piece and decided to give it a chance, it’s probably because like me you have already read through dozens of articles about how to start writing and probably never actually found the answer you were looking for.

Maybe you never felt comfortable enough to publish something you wrote because you feel that your text does not have the same texture as most of the things you read on Medium.

So I put some thought into finding a way to help you start writing and publishing your content as soon as possible.

Everything is about structure.

Let’s start with a simple exercise, let’s pretend you never baked a lasagna in your whole life and a good friend of yours sent you the following recipe:

  • 1/2 lb dry lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound lean ground beef (chuck)
  • 15 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 1 1/2 lb (24 ounces) Mozzarella cheese, grated or sliced
  • 1/4 lb (4 ounces) freshly grated Parmesan cheese

If you’d mixed all of those ingredients together would you prepare a good lasagna?

Well, I rather say that it might not look like a real lasagna.

The main issue is that it lacks the structure.

The recipe doesn’t have the information that you need on how to prepare the sauce and how to build the lasagna layer by layer.

The same way it happens with writing, every good story needs process, planning, and structure.

There are dozens of ways to structure your story, but one of the most common ones is the 3 act structure.

So, before you start on your subject try to list down the content your reader needs to absorb, and then seek to structure it in a way it has its intro, climax, and ending.

When I decided to write this article I started in the following way:

A hook: a way to convince you to stick with the reading.
An obstacle: “How the most people write and how should they”
A climax: How to explore structure
Resolution/Ending: Teaching you how to carry the reading and convincing you to start your first article.

With all of this, I drove you throughout this text and the way I made it was premeditated, not empirical.

I didn’t start writing my fingers off and ended here; I had set a handful of objectives in the first hand, even before start writing the story.

Now it’s your turn, try to find a theme that you dominate and give it the first try, start by listing down your content and then publish it to Medium, comment it here and let’s start a discussion!

Thanks for your time, my best regards.
