Charles Frederick Albright was born on August 10, 1933, in Amarillo, Texas. When he was three weeks old, Fred and Delle Albright adopted him. Fred was a Dallas grocer, and the family lived in the middle-class neighborhood of Oak Cliff. Reports say that as Charles got older, Delle would tell him that his birth mother was a 16-year old law student who had secretly married and gotten pregnant.
